Peter Linett has been a partner at Slover Linett Strategies since 1999, during which time he has become a thought-partner to museums, symphonies, and other cultural and informal learning organizations that want to understand their audiences and develop new strategies for engaging them. His work centers on the changing conventions of presentation and participation at art and science museums and in classical music.
In 2011, Linett founded Culture Kettle, a nonprofit incubator for innovation in public engagement with the arts and sciences. Culture Kettle will pursue both sides of the “R&D” equation, conducting exploratory social research and linking those studies to programmatic experimentation.
Linett is a research affiliate at the Cultural Policy Center at the University of Chicago, where he helped develop a multi-year study of the effects of the boom in facilities investment by cultural organizations, funded by the MacArthur, Mellon, and Kresge Foundations. During the winter and spring semesters of the 2010 academic year, he was a visiting associate at the Center and gave a talk on subjectivity in cultural communication.
Linett serves as associate editor for theory & practice at Curator: The Museum Journal, a peer-reviewed journal of scholarship and practice founded in 1958 at the American Museum of Natural History. His articles and reviews have appeared in its pages and other publications, including the Wall Street Journal.
Linett was a founding national advisory council member for the Center for the Future of Museums at the American Association of Museums. He speaks regularly at conferences and for years led the “AAM book club” interview panel at the museum association’s annual meeting. Linett has guest-lectured at the University of Chicago, University of Victoria, and Art Institute of Chicago.
A magna cum laude graduate of Yale University, Linett pursued graduate work in aesthetics and art history at the University of Chicago. He lives in Santa Fe with his wife and business partner Cheryl Slover-Linett and their twin daughters.
