John is a founder of the Gertrude Stein Repertory Theater (1990), Learning Worlds (1998), and Learning Worlds Institute (2008). He has been a pioneer in the use of telepresence in the arts and arts education, developing programs that combine videoconferencing, application sharing, interactive 2D and 3D media and digital archives, in performance and teaching.
He has developed or contributed to training curricula for SAP, GM, Mobil, Exxon, GE, and other leading companies, and worked in innovation and product development for NTT, Epson, LexisNexis, Nationwide, and others. In a recent project for Education First, an education services company, he completed a series of ethnographic “day in the life” studies of public middle-school teachers in Mississippi, Kansas, Texas, and California.
John is working with GBI (Global Business Incubator), a UN-affiliated program, to develop an online curriculum for potential entrepreneurs (from K12 to seniors) in underdeveloped countries and a “virtual incubator” model for encouraging international business development. He is collaborating on a project with the Seoul Institute for the Arts, CultureHub, and La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York to develop richer and more effective methods for international cultural exchange using virtual performance and collaboration technologies.
